What is Data?

Data are individual facts, statistics, or items of information, often numeric. In a more technical sense, data are a set of values of qualitative or quantitative variables about one or more persons or objects. Data are measured, collected, reported, analyzed, and used to create data visualizations such as graphs, tables, or images.

Raw Data

Raw data “unprocessed data” is a collection of numbers or characters before it has been “cleaned” and corrected by researchers. Raw data needs to be corrected to remove outliers or obvious instrument or data entry errors. Data processing commonly occurs in stages and the processed data from one stage may be considered the raw data of the next stage. 

What is Data Analytics?

Data analytics is the science of analyzing raw data to make conclusions about that information. Many of the techniques and processes of data analytics have been automated into mechanical processes and algorithms that work over raw data for human consumption.

Data visualization

Data visualization is the process of taking raw data, transforming it into:

  • Graphs.
  • Charts.
  • Images.
  • And even videos.

That explains the numbers and allows us to gain insights from them. Data visualization changes the way make sense of the information to create value out of it and spot trends.
